Maybe you’ve seen that scene played out on TV or in a movie. It represents well what we are facing on a daily basis. We all must learn to STAND! Did you know that we all are in the midst of a battle everyday? Unfortunately, many are fighting the wrong fight. Listen to Paul...
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Do you see that highlighted portion of the text? This is where many of us get trapped. We look at certain people as our enemies, when the reality is, there is more to the story. Like the duel above, you face an enemy that is strong and persistent. He stares you down daily trying to deceive, defeat and destroy your soul. Truth be told, the stakes are high with your soul being on the line. But you do have the weapons necessary to defeat him if you use them well. A little while later in the same letter, Paul continues with the following words:
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
I pray that we all learn to take a stand. That we would stand up for truth and stand against what is false, no matter what the “popular” vote may be. We need to recognize that the armor we wear is designed for us to stand in the battle, facing our enemy, not to turn and run leaving our backsides exposed. James writes, (James 4:7)
“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
When we are submitted to the will of God, we are able to stand up against our enemy and he will do the fleeing. Not because of who we are, but because of who we are in Christ.
Whatever battle you are facing today, this week, month or year, know that you can have victory over the enemy. It’s been too easy for too many to fall prey to his attacks. To many have tried to run and now lay on the ground feeling defeated already. Although we fight these battles day after day, let us take heart and rejoice, for the “war” has already been won. Let us get back up and face our enemy with boldness that is not in ourselves, but in Jesus, the victorious, conquering hero. We need to follow His lead and trust that He is with us every step of the way.
Remember I’m praying for you, we’re all in this together.
