Also, a couple weeks back, during the sermon, I touched on the significance of the gospel message. This gospel message which has been taught, shared, and preached for nearly 2,000 years now, still has a major impact on the lives of people today. It is a message that has caused many hard hearts to be softened. It is a message of truth, which we must cling to all the days of our lives. We must not water it down, alter it, or try to “fix” it in order to make it easier to handle.
Throughout the years, many people have died in the process of passing this message along. Why? Because it is worth it! Sharing the truth of how our sins have separated us from God is essential. Many people do not even realize this fundamental truth. Yet, we also need to share of how incredible God’s love is for each and every one of us, no matter what sins have been thought, spoken or acted out. God desires to have us back in a right relationship with Him. He has provided the very means for this to happen.
Out of His abundant love for you and I, God the Father, sent His only Son (Jesus), who was completely innocent in every way, to die for our sins, because we have been guilty in every way. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice, for He was without sin. None of us can make that claim about ourselves, and if we do, we’re lying (which is sinful in and of itself).
Jesus died in our place to offer us the gift of eternal life, which we could never receive from any other source. Jesus is the only way to our Father in heaven (John 14:6).
Many in our world try to discredit, disqualify or disassemble the truth of this gospel message. I pray that you will not be duped into believing any other message than what we have been so graciously provided in God’s Word (aka: Bible). The apostle Paul warned the church of Galatia about such things.
I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live
in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—which is really no
gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are
trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven
should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under
God’s curse! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is
preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s
curse! Galatians 1:6-9
I pray that you will not allow yourselves to be misled by “fine sounding” messages that really are no gospel at all. But instead, that you would share the sentiment of Paul as he wrote to the church at Rome:
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew and then to the Gentile.” Romans 1:16
Remember, I’m praying for you, we’re all in this together.
