For those who are in Christ, Easter has a greater & deeper meaning to us. It is a time where we focus, remember and celebrate what God has so graciously offered to each of us… salvation. The apostle Paul sums up this whole truth for us in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4
Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures…
Gospel = Christ died for our sins, was buried, was raised on the third day.
By this gospel you are “saved”, if you hold firmly to it, otherwise your faith is in vain.
Are you holding firmly to this truth? Have you allowed the gospel message to sink in to your heart and mind? Do you believe it to be true? If so, WONDERFUL! However, please do not be mistaken by believing that a decision you made some time ago was “good enough”, if you haven’t held on to it. Meaning, you haven’t let it consume and conform your whole being to this day. If you made that decision, what an awesome decision you made, but you need to hold firmly to it throughout the rest of your life. The author of Hebrews reminds us of this in Hebrews 3:13-14
But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first.
The assurance of salvation we received when we first believed in the gospel needs to be held on to firmly, until the end of our lives or until Jesus returns. We must not turn away or deny the truth of the gospel that we first received and found confidence of better things to come. We must hold on to it, cling to it, grasp on and not let go.
How are you doing right now with your grip? Does it feel like it is slipping away? Are you holding tight? Did you already let go sometime in the past? It is essential that you grab hold once again and do not let go. No matter what! Take the opportunity this Easter Season to attend a worship service where you know you will be reminded of the immense truth found in the gospel message.
Remember, I’m praying for you, we’re all in this together.
