As you can tell, we are talking a lot about the idea of a “story” lately. Well as I stated earlier, everyone has a story to tell. Even YOU! You are able to share about the experiences you have had throughout life. Whether good, bad or indifferent, your experiences may have a major impact on someone else’s life if you are willing to share. Someone may be going through a very difficult time in life that you are able to relate to, because you have been through it yourself.
How many times throughout your life has the story of someone else helped to lift your spirits, give you hope, or teach you a valuable life lesson that was needed? I want to encourage you to begin to think about the experiences in your life that weren’t so great, but you believe have impacted you the most throughout the years. Those pivotal moments that have shaped you into the person you are now. Here’s a short list of possibilities:
Alcoholism • Job Loss • Abortion • Suicide • Financial debt • Family member in jail/prison • Divorce • Sexual Abuse • Hurt by a close friend • Shame • Death of a spouse • Adultery • Spousal abuse • Pornography • Self-loathing • Drug abuse • Depression • Deception • Anger • Marriage Issues • Bankruptcy • Controlling Attitude • Selfishness • Pride • Greed • Betrayal
There are so many more, I know. But what I want you to consider, is how did these experiences in your life story affect you? How did you cope? What steps did you take to make it right? Was it something you did or done to you or a loved one? Were you a Christian at the time? Did you look to God? Did you feel alone? Did you keep asking the question, “WHY?”
There are many people who are dealing with such things right now. Pray that God will prepare your heart and mind to be used by Him. Pray that God will put you in the right place at the right time to allow you to minister to someone who is deeply hurting and struggling with an experience that you can relate to. Or pray that God give you the courage to approach the person that you already know is struggling. Pray that God will give you an opportunity to share your story with someone who needs to hear. And perhaps, it will open a door for you to share how God’s story has impacted your own story in significant ways.
(If you are still struggling or holding on to some of these past experiences and sense that it is hindering your relationship with Jesus, please feel free to call me or come by for visit sometime)
Remember, I’m praying for you… we’re all in this together.
